Olympic champion pleaded not guilty to charges of sexual assault

Kenyan Olympic champion Conseslus Kipruto has pleaded not guilty to charges involving sexual assault on a minor.
The 3000 meter steeplechase champion appeared before the court on Monday in his hometown Kapsabet, and he denied all accusations against him.
According to reports, kirupto was charged on the basis of a report made to a local police station by the tennager’s parent, accusing kirupto of eloping with their 15 year old daughter on October 20th.
The girl was reported missing for three days and upon returning home she kept quiet about her whereabout; it was police investigation that disclosed that upon checking her phone records, they discovered that she has been in constant communication with kirupto.
Kirupto, 25, if found guilty would get up to a 14 year sentence to prison, with the age of consent being 18 in Kenya.
According to reports, Demonstrators gathered outside Kapsabet Law Courts in Kapsabet,demanding for justice.
The case has been adjourned to May 10, 2021, with agencies of human rights violation taking interest in this one.
